Our Board of Directors

Shawna Mefferd Kelty - President

Shawna is a professor/chair of Theatre at SUNY Plattsburgh and the current board president. She has served on the NCFC board since 2019, appointed to serve as secretary. She has been teaching college students for almost 30 years and has worn a lot of hats as a theatre maker, working in professional theatre/film and in the community service sector with local community and city organizations (coalition building, training, outreach, and grant writing), and also has extensive experience in customer service, merchandising, and management roles in retail, theatre, and higher education.

Shawna moved to Plattsburgh in 2011 from the Midwest (Nebraska native), and while she really is a lizard in search of a hot rock and a heat lamp, she still calls this burgh home, thanks, in large part, to the Co-op. She’s also a distance runner and can usually be found running somewhere around town or along Cumberland Head. If you do see her, please don’t honk, but cheers are always welcome.

Susan Brecht-Cadieux

Jeffrey Sisson - Vice President

Susan is originally from Montreal. She and her husband have 3 grown daughters, 3 grandchildren, and a German shepherd named Frida. They have been Beekmantown residents since 1980. Her work career includes 20 years as an art educator for levels Nursery to Junior High. Susan's involvement with the North Country Food Co-op goes back many years, first as a shopper, then volunteer, then 10 years as Produce Manager and Assistant Manager. She worked with both Carol Czaja and Ryan Demers. She is an avid gardener and cook, with a small CSA for singles and couples providing eggs, produce and homemade preserves. Sewing and art are her wintertime hobbies.

Sarah Martin - Coming soon!

Jeff moved to the North Country in 1997 and has called it home ever since. He spent most of his professional career with Champlain Valley Educational Services (CVES), serving the region’s school districts as a Health and Safety Specialist. For the past several years, he has served as the Director of Public Health for Clinton County.

It was through his work at the Clinton County Health Department that I developed relationships that eventually led to his service on the Board. Jeff believes the Co-op is an incredible community resource, providing access to local, organic, and specialty foods while also meeting the needs of individuals with dietary restrictions. Its focus on serving the entire community and recognizing diverse needs is something he truly values.

Jeff has come to appreciate the cooperative principles and the emphasis they place on community, local decision-making, and putting people and quality products first as he begins his second year on the board.

Outside of work, he is an avid flower gardener, a self-taught mechanic, and a dedicated DIY enthusiast. When he's not spending time with his family, you’ll usually find him working on a project around the house, in the garden, or in the garage.
