Happy, Happy Spring!
Spring is a time of growth and revival. In keeping with the season, the Co-Op has undergone a great deal of change and growth of late; we have a new General Manager and many new members of staff, and there are physical changes being made to the store to improve your shopping experience–including the expansion of the Grab n Go. Our in-house kitchen is developing a more substantial set of pre-made salads, wraps, bowls, and desserts for all your noshing needs. So come on in, say hi, and check out the freshly updated Co-Op! Please do let a member of staff know if you need a hand finding anything, as some products have moved.
Since it’s April, we’re gearing up for gardening season. We have seeds from Seed Savers, whose mission is preserving and proliferating heirloom varieties. We also carry Hudson Valley Seeds–every variety of seed features art from a different artist, and a percentage of sales go to support the arts regionally.
We’re starting to see more mushrooms like Black Pearl, Blue Oyster, and King Trumpet–all of which are coming from our new partner Running Roots Farm! Farmed and foraged sustainably in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Running Roots is all about bringing the magnificence of mycology to the local community. Nothing says spring like new growth sprouting from the decay of seasons past!
In grocery news, jam is jammin! We just restocked Surprenants (from Surprenant’s Berry Farm in Mooers), and Bonne Maman products (grape and blackberry jams, fig, cherry, and apricot preserves, and lemon curd) are on sale for April–perfect for the start of picnic season. Whether you’re pairing your favorite fruit spread with some local cheeses and a Klinger Bread Co. croissant, or using it to bake some tasty treats for the upcoming spring holidays, pump up the jam!
April is an exciting time for many reasons, but we’re particularly excited for Earth Day. Participate in the City of Plattsburgh’s GreenUP Earth Day event on the 19th and you could win a basket of Co-Op goodies! This event brings together residents, students, and local organizations to clean up our public spaces, plant trees and flowers, and learn about sustainability.
We're also looking forward to our Annual Member Meeting on April 27th! We'll be meeting at 5:30 to discuss all things Co-Op and to get together with you, the community. This meeting will also feature a plant swap!
