Happy August!
Here at the North Country Food Co-Op, we’re spending August savoring the late-summer specialties and getting ready for fall. Check out what’s going on!
Operations
You may have noticed a lot of things moving around in our store. We’re rearranging things to maximize access to the products you love. We really appreciate your patience while we optimize your shopping experience, especially since the changes can be disconcerting! If you have trouble finding anything, please go to a staff member–they’re here to help. PS: This is the best time to give input on what products you’d like to see in the Co-Op, so please give us your thoughts!
School is starting August 26–students, stop in for Student Saturday at NCFC! Current students (of any school, regardless of age or location) get 5% off with a valid student ID. We do this every Saturday, year round.
As part of our organizational structure, we offer a lot of opportunities for involvement. In addition to welcoming NCFC members to volunteer, our work is supplemented by other community members: for example, we have partnered with the county to host a SWEET–Six Weeks of Employment Experience for Teens–worker this summer, and we have begun to work with the Clinton County Youth Court as a community service location. While the folks who join us through these programs are not on staff, they do valuable work with our team! To all of our supplementary team members, I would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU.
Products
August is nothing if not tomato season. Be sure to stop in and see the gorgeous heirloom tomatoes we have, courtesy of the Quarry Garden, while they last! They’re especially good in a caprese with some Maplebrook mozzarella, or in a tabouli with some local cucumbers.
In bulk, we are continuing to feature olive oil at $9.99/lb. It’s a great deal on a great product, and perfect for pesto!
Organic Japanese matcha from Metropolitan Tea Co. is on sale this month! At $43.99/lb, this new variety is worth a taste.
For the coffee lovers, I’m recommending you scope out our new homemade cold brew and the Oat Milk Latte from Chapter One. Two delicious local options for your caffeine fix!
The Cheese of the Month for August is maple smoked cheddar from Grafton Village Cheese Co. Perfect on everything from a burger to a cheese plate, this cheese is on sale for $6.59 ea.
Events
Catch up with us at the Farm Day at the Plattsburgh Farmers and Crafters Market on August 30th! We’ll be joining some of the many local farms and producers who sustain our community through good, local food.
"August is the border between summer and autumn; it is the most beautiful month I know." - Tove Jansson
